Each year SEMHIMA members select unique individuals to fill positions on the association Board. These individuals offer industry expertise stemming from their career experience, education, and enthusiasm.
Annette Fox, RHIT
President
My roles in Health Information Management have been many; and I have benefited from each position in terms of experience, knowledge and establishing professional relationships. I am an advocate for the HIM profession, and I have attempted to expose myself to the many areas of opportunity our profession provides. I have had roles as a Coder/Abstractor/Analyst, Coding and Management Consultant, DRG Coordinator, Coding/DRG Auditor, Director of DRG Auditing Services, Utilization Review Coordinator, Coding Supervisor, Instructor, and I have had my own company. These roles were performed as sites such as acute care facilities, third party payors and vendor companies. I have had the opportunity to work with many talented individuals and I firmly believe that as HIM professionals we gain valuable experience from these encounters. Traveling to other states and facilities has also offered me the opportunity to see how other HIM Departments operate and implement solutions. I see that many of our roles are becoming highly specialized and the affects that technology is having on our day to day operations. I plan to be on the forefront of changes that have to be implemented so that HIM operations can continue to flourish in this competitive technological market. I plan on exposing myself to new technologies/operations and implementing action plans, utilizing the network and resources our Associations provide us, and getting out of the “comfort zone” in other areas in order to grow and contribute to the HIM profession.
